BEAL CITY – The top two teams in the Highland Conference faced off in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon, splitting their matchup, with Evart winning game one, 2-0, while Beal City won the second game, 3-1. With the victory, the Aggies secured the conference title this season.
Game one was a battle of the pitchers. The Aggies’ Wade Wilson record nine strikeouts, while the Wildcats’ Danny Witbeck had 14.
Neither team scored until the fifth inning, when Evart jumped out to a 2-0 lead and rode that until the end, handing Beal City its first loss in conference play.
Beal City bounced back in game two, winning 3-1.
Beal City will finish out the regular season against Shepherd next week, and Evart has Reed City on Thursday.
