Rudyard Dedicates Baseball and Softball Field Complex to Bernie VanSloten

RUDYARD – Rudyard community members gathered at the baseball and softball fields Friday night to dedicate the complex in honor of Bernie VanSloten.

VanSloten, a 1967 graduate of Rudyard, passed away in 2018.

He loved Rudyard High School athletics throughout his life. He was always at the ball fields, watching the game from the press box and working to maintain the fields.

“Nobody will be as good as Bernie was [at taking care of the fields],” said Rudyard superintendent Tom McKee. “And that shows in that since his passing in 2018, there’s now 15 people that have to work on these fields.”
