REMUS — Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart has moved onto the state semifinals for the first time in program history after a straight set victory over Traverse City Christian on Tuesday in the state quarterfinals in Div. 4.

Sacred Heart closely won all three sets, 25-21, 25-23, 26-24.

“Our coach has been telling us all year that we can make it to Final Four, and we kind of didn’t believe it at first. But as we’ve been rolling through postseason, we’ve been proving ourselves right that we can get the Final Four and we have. So it’s awesome,” Sacred Heart senior Delaney Scully said.

This marked the Irish’s eighth appearance in the state quarterfinals since 2010, but they had never advanced to the state semifinals prior to this season.

“We’ve made it to the quarters six years out of my eight years coaching, so we’ve never been able to break this barrier,” Sacred Heart head coach Krista Davis said. “They worked hard. They worked hard for this moment. It’s been a long time coming.”

They will take on Inland Lakes on Thursday in the Div. 4 state semifinal in Battle Creek at 12 p.m. The winner advances to the state championship at Saturday in Battle Creek at 10 a.m.
