TRAVERSE CITY – Traverse City Central dominated play but had to hang on for a 1-0 rivalry victory over Traverse City West on Wednesday night.
The Trojans outshot the Titans 41-4 but could only manage a Koen Burkholder goal midway through the second period.
The Titans’ Mason West kept his team in the game, recording 40 saves for the night.
“That’s kind of the way it’s been going back the last five, six, seven years maybe,” said TC Central head coach Chris Givens. “[These games are] just really physical, tight -checking, low-scoring, good goaltending on both sides. So you knew it was going to be that way again today, and so we’re thankful to get the win.”
The Trojans now have 10 days off before a Big North Conference showdown with Alpena on December 17th. Traverse City West travels to Petoskey on Friday night.
